Autumn is my favorite time of year, and apple picking is one of my favorite autumn activities. Luckily, there are plenty of great apple orchards here in Central Ohio. A few weeks ago, we took a quick trip to The Orchard & Company in Plain City, Ohio!
I guess a lot of folks had the same idea for their Saturday afternoon as we did, because it was busy when we arrived. I was a little nervous about social distancing, but thankfully the orchard was big enough that it wasn’t crowded. Most of the time, there wasn’t anyone near us as we were picking apples.
Okay, let’s be honest. We all know that half the fun in going apple picking is the ~cute fall content~ but I love getting outdoors, wandering the orchard, and supporting local farmers!
I’m calling this my “granola grandpa” look. It’s classic, simple and just a tad crunchy. I love that sweater vests are trendy right now – I thrifted the one in the photo recently and it’s become one of my new closet staples now that colder temperatures have arrived. I opted to wear my hiking boots for maximum comfort – plus, the laces are such a fun pop of red.
We had good timing – the Fuji apples (my favorite!) had just ripened enough to pick the day we went. We also picked up some pumpkin donuts on our way out and they were so delicious that I’m still thinking about them a couple of weeks later… We had picked over 30 apples, and there was no way we could eat all of them before they went bad. So naturally, we went home and made a ton of apple crisp!
