Today I am sharing 7 Thanksgiving outfit ideas to wear this year. My intention with this post is not to urge you to go out and buy a bunch of new clothes to wear for the upcoming holiday but to inspire you with some ideas that you probably already have in your closet. I tried to base these looks off of a “capsule wardrobe,” meaning that you can create several different outfits with a curated selection of versatile pieces.
Also, I wanted to make sure that all of these outfits would actually be comfortable enough to sit at the dinner table for a Thanksgiving dinner or lounging on your parent’s living room floor playing board games. I firmly believe that Thanksgiving is an occasion for being comfortable. You’ll only find one pair of hard pants (read: jeans) on this list. But with that being said, let’s get into the list!

Thanksgiving Outfit Idea #1: Dressy & Comfortable
On one hand, I want to wear something casual for Thanksgiving. But on the other hand, my nap dresses are calling my name. For this look, wear a smocked midi dress, neutral color turtleneck, and white sneakers. Then you’ll be comfortable enough to wear the outfit all day while looking put-together (without even trying!).
First off, I couldn’t make this list without including a Hill House Nap dress of some sort. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of nap dresses on our Instagram feeds come this Thanksgiving. My favorite way to transition my nap dress into fall/winter is by layering a turtleneck underneath. But you could add some tights and boots for a nighttime look.
Outfit #2: Neutral Chic
First, grab your favorite button-down shirt, then layer a sweater vest over it. Then add your trendy faux leather pants and chelsea boots. Now you have yourself a neutral chic outfit.
Do not be fooled by these vegan leather pants, they are SO COMFORTABLE! I recommend them to anyone who will listen.
Idea #3: Elevated Casual
First, put on a stretchy midi dress. Next, add a chore jacket. Then pull it all together with mules and dainty jewelry.
Outfit Idea #4: Friendsgiving
Friendsgiving outfit formula: plaid shacket, turtleneck, corduroy pants, and sneakers.
Outfit #5: Feminine Chic
Feminine outfit formula: cozy scarf, a sweater, stretchy ribbed midi skirt, velvet heels, and dainty jewelry. This look is a bit dressier than the others because the heels elevate the whole look. If you want, simply switch out the heels for a sneaker to make it more casual.
The “Secretly Pajamas” Outfit
“Secretly Pajamas” outfit formula: matching sweatsuit, clogs, and wool socks. It’s that simple. No one will even know that you wore that outfit to bed.
The Parisian Girl Take on Thanksgiving
Parisian outfit formula: cardigan or sweater, straight leg jeans, red lipstick if you’re brave, a beret (I know French girls don’t really wear berets but I like them so I don’t care), and loafers. Et voila!
Thank you so much for reading this post – I hope you enjoyed these 7 Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas! If you end up re-creating any of these looks, please let me know! I hope you have a safe and lovely Thanksgiving surrounded by your loved ones, whoever and wherever that may be ๐
