The Weekly Edit | 5.2.20

Lavender French 75s are quickly becoming one of my new favorite drinks.

Today was a great way to top off the week. The local farmers’ markets in Indianapolis (where I’m quarantined) were allowed to open today, so we woke up early to pick up some fresh eggs. I was thoroughly impressed by the way the organizers ran the market. They put many necessary restrictions in place to keep people safe, from reserving the first 30 minutes for people who are immunocompromised to setting a limit of one person per household. We were glad that they were taking such measures and were happy to comply. I sat in the car while my boyfriend did some very quick shopping (while wearing a mask) to pick up eggs and – to my delight – some kimchi!

Once we got home, we made our own version of brunch similar to that of our favorite local restaurant, Petite Chou Bistro and Champagne Bar. We had omelets, simple greens, and sourdough toast with lavender French 75 cocktails. We had a brunch picnic out on the veranda and basked in the warm weather before watching a couple of episodes of Normal People. Now, I’m writing this right before we go out for an evening walk!

I hope you enjoy this week’s list!

Read

Marla Berkowitz: the interpreter capturing Ohio’s attention – Marla Berkowitz is a certified deaf interpreter and senior lecturer at The Ohio State University. I took American Sign Language while I was in college and I loved it. This insightful article highlights how critical it is for d/Deaf people to have equal access to information, especially during times of crisis.

For young twenty-something women like me who are focused on their career, but are still trying to figure it out: I loved this interview with Liz Segar on her book “The Rocket Years: How Your Twenties Launch the Rest of Your Life.”

Women make up a majority of essential U.S. coronavirus workers via Axios – Tale as old as time. Women are rock stars hard at work but are too often undervalued and underpaid. As the Times writes, women are “an unseen labor force that keeps the country running and takes care of those most in need.” It’s disappointing but not surprising. Women deserve better.

I loved this essay on what life will look like after the pandemic from Grace Atwood at The Stripe.

This interview of Gossip Girl costume designer Eric Daman (h/t Hitha Palepu’s 5 Smart Reads) is making me look forward to the Gossip Girl reboot!

Listen

NPR’s “How I Built This” is one of my favorite podcasts. Guy Raz interviews the founders behind some of the most successful companies. I laughed out loud at this interview with the founders of Ben & Jerry’s several times.

If you’re like me, you’ve resorted to Tik Tok as a form of entertainment during the pandemic and have heard Megan Thee Stallion’s song “Savage” way too many times. Megan The Stallion and Beyonce (!!!) dropped a surprise remix of the song the other day and are donating the proceeds to COVID-19 relief in Houston through Bread of Life. I won’t lie, the song is a bop.

Fitness

Sweat by Kayla Itsines – Lately, I’ve felt like I’m in a rut with my fitness regimen, so I wanted to try something new that would challenge me. I just started BBG Week 1 with the 7-day free trial and it is TOUGH, even though I was already doing resistance training a few times a week. Each workout is only 28 minutes long, but I’m drenched in sweat by the end of it. I guess they don’t call it “Sweat” for nothing.

Shopping Fix

Margaux New York is offering 20% off nearly everything until Mother’s Day with the option to donate a portion of your discount to No Kid Hungry. Their shoes almost never go on sale, and it’s even better that they are donating to a good cause. I have the Demi in ballet pink – they’re so comfortable and versatile.

Gal Meets Glam is having a 15% off sale until May 3! My favorites dresses are the Lisa, the Chassity, and the Dorothy.

Thanks for reading! Leave a comment to let me know what has been on your radar this week.
